The Renault Laguna comes with a choice of three petrol and five diesel engines. All have six-speed transmissions and power the front wheels. The 2.0 16v Turbo is available with automatic transmission only and the dCi 150 offers a choice of a manual or automatic. The rest employ manual gearboxes.
Diesels are badged ‘dCi’ followed by a number that denotes their horsepower. The most economical is the dCi 110, which has a combined average of 57.6mpg. It’s also a willing performer and delivers 119mph pace.
The dCi 130 and manual version of the dCi 150 each offer a combined average of 47.1mpg. The dCi 130 combines that with 126mph performance and the dCi 150 has 130mph potential. The dCi 175 delivers more muscular responses and 136mph performance yet is rated at a fuel-efficient 44.1mpg.
The most powerful diesel engine of all is the dCi 180, which is available in GT trim and mixes 139mph performance with 43.4mpg economy. Its petrol equivalent is the GT 205 Turbo, which is a 205bhp model that runs to 145mph and returns 34.4mpg. Both GT models feature Renault’s Active Drive chassis, which is an electronically controlled four-wheel steering system for more sporting responses.
The automatic petrol model has a 170bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that is capable of 136mph and 32mpg economy. The entry-level petrol variant, the 140bhp 2.0 16v, offers the extra fuel efficiency of 37.2mpg for a small drop in pace and a 130mph limit.
