All Renault Laguna Sport Tourers are front-wheel drive and equipped with a six-speed transmission for good sprinting pace and quiet cruising. Most variants have manual gearboxes but the dCi 150 is also available with automatic transmission and all 2.0 16V Turbo versions are automatic.
Within a broad line-up, there are five diesels, all named ‘dCi’ followed by a number that denotes their horsepower. The entry-level version, the dCi 110, is the most fuel-efficient and its combined economy figure is 56.5mpg, which is all the more impressive given its 116mph top speed. The dCi 130 brings more pace and has a top speed of 124mph yet it still has the efficiency to average 46.3mpg.
The dCi 150 offers the same economy in manual form but with an increase in performance to 131mph. That rises to 134mph with the dCi 175 and economy remains strong at a combined average of 43.4mpg.
The most powerful diesel is the dCi 180, which is available exclusively in GT trim and combines 136mph performance with 42.4mpg economy. Its petrol counterpart is the GT 205 Turbo, which delivers 142mph pace and 34mpg. Both GT versions feature Renault’s Active Drive chassis, which is a four-wheel steering set-up tuned to give more sporting responses.
There are two other petrol engines in the line-up. The 170bhp 2.0 16V Turbo runs to 134mph and returns 31.7mpg while the 140bhp 2.0 16V mixes 126mph performance with 36.7mpg economy.
