
Summary of the scheme
Although the exact details of the Scrappage Scheme and the implementation are still being developed, here is a brief summary of the scheme details so far. We will update this as soon as more information becomes available:
- In exchange for scrapping your old vehicle and buying a new one the Government and Renault will contribute a total of £2,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle
- The scheme starts on May 18th 2009
- The scheme will be available until 28th February 2010, or until £300 million has been spent by the Government (approx. 300,000 eligible claimants), whichever comes first.
THE VEHICLE YOU SCRAP:
- Must be a car or commercial vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes
- Must have been first registered on or prior to 31 July 1999
- You must either be registered as the vehicle owner, or have a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) and the vehicle must have a current MOT certificate.
- You must have been the registered owner for 12 months prior to the order date of your new vehicle.
YOUR NEW VEHICLE:
The new car or vehicle you wish to buy must be:
- a car or small van weighing up to 3,500 kg
- first registered in the UK on or after mid May 2009
- declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers
